TIJUCA FOREST

Tijuca Forest is the world’s largest urban forest. It is the home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife, only found in the Atlantic Rainforest. Tijuca Forest was replanted in the middle of the 19th Century after years of intense deforestation and planting (especially coffee planting). The plantin was pioneer initiative in all Latin America. Major Gomes Archer, the first forest administrator, was nominated by the Emperor D.Pedro II in 1861, to be responsible for the replanting. He worked initially with 6 slaves and later with 22 paid workers. They planted 100 thousand seedlings in 13 years. The second administrator, Baron Gastão D’ Escragnole continued replanting the forest from 1874 to 1888, planting 30 thousand more seedlings. This transformed the forest into a leisure area, creating bridges, fountains, lakes, etc. The forest now became a privileged place where nature and culture entwine, harmonize and complement each other.

COPACABANA BEACH

Copacabana is one of the most beautiful beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Copacabana is one of the world's great beaches, wedged on a strip of land at the foot of the most dramatic hills. Copacabana is about 5km (3mi) long and is so wide that it's more of a sandy park than a beach. Copacabana is the best example of Rio’s glorious history, with the glamour of casinos, the charm of the "vedetes"(dancing stars) and the music of the jazz orchestras. Despite recent deterioration of neighborhood, with the presence of prostitutes and transsexuals, Copbana, as is it locally called, is still very charmy and deserves a visit. With a population of 350,000 spread through just 110 streets in four narrow blocks, Copacabana has one of the world's highest population densities, giving it a non-stop party atmosphere. For pure city excitement, Copacabana is Rio's liveliest theatre.

IPANEMA BEACH

Ipanema Beach is worldly famous due to the famous music. With the beautiful Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers) Mountain in the south extreme and the rocks of the Arpoador in the north, Ipanema is probably the best beach of south side Rio de Janeiro. The beach is a large part of Rio's culture, and everything revolves around it. Best professional soccer players play foot-volley here.
The water is normally green and its waves are perfect for bodyboarding. It is like a tropical paradise with the real sand beaches at the edge of a tropical lagoon, surrounded by cascading waterfalls, four swimming pools and five Jacuzzi-style spas. There are also variety of services, including poolside cocktail, food service and private cabana rentals. Lifeguards are on duty daily. It is opened everyday, from 9am to 6pm.

CORCOVADO HILL

Corcovado hill is where the famous statue of the Christ is. The Christ of Corcovado is Rio’s best-known icon and tourist landmark due to its worldwide popularity. A 30 meters tall Christ statue made of concrete has its arms wide open, as if to embrace the whole city. It was built by Hector Da Silva Costa with Paul Landowsky's assistance. The base stands on the top of the Corcovado hill (710 meters) offering a magnificent view of Rio. On the platform there are souvenir stores, an information office, toilets, bars and small shops with fast food and light meals at reasonable prices. It is opened from 8:00am to 6:00pm. It is $8 per person, either on foot or by car.

THE NITEROI CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM

The Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói — MAC) is one of the city’s main landmarks. It was completed in 1996. It was designed by Oscar Niemeyer with the assistance of structural engineer Bruno Contarini, who worked with Niemeyer on earlier projects. The museum is 16 meters high; cupola with diameter of 50 meters with three floors. A wide access slope leads to a Hall of Expositions, which has a capacity for sixty people. Two doors lead to the viewing gallery. The saucer-shaped modernist structure, which has been likened to a UFO, is set on a cliffside, at the bottom of which is a beach.

I already planned out my schedule before I got to Brazil, therefore I didn’t need much help. I also wanted to try things out myself, so we just met for a day to hang out.

FESTA LITERARIA INTERNACIONAL DE PARATY

Flip (Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty
It is an event that takes place in Rio de Janeiro. The Paraty International Literary Festival draws a cultured crowd to one of the most charming colonial towns in Brazil. Movies, shows, debates, workshops and Flipinha, the Flip for kids, are some of the attractions of the event. However, the stars of Flip are Brazilian and international authors.

1. Pickup from Plaza Hotel (8am) and drive to Urubu River shore

3. Swim in 24ºC (75ºF) black water
4. 3 hours of kayak through luxuriant rainforest where yellow and blue mawcaws live
5. First camp site
6. BBQ lunch
7. Rest
8. Climb cliff
9. Rappel down cliff
10. Dinner
11. Play Brazilian games and tell stories
12. Camp overnight in front of cliff

DAY 2

2. Tow kayaks upstream for 30 mins
3. Traverse across a high bridge made of rope
4. Tree-climb to forest canopy
5. Glide down a zip line to end up by a gorgeous waterfall
6. Lunch and dinner inside the forest
7. Camp for night

DAY 3

2. Get back to the river’s shore
3. Kayak through variety of waters
4. Lunch on river shore or by a 2 steps heaven-like virgin waterfall
5. 4 hours trek in the direction of deep forest
6. Look at different animals and plants

DAY 4

1. Get up before sunrise at 6am
2. Quick breakfast
3. Trek deeper for another 4-5 hours (best time to get the chance to see rare animals like tapirs, wild boars, monkeys, etc)

1. Trek ends back at local guide’s place

3. Travel by boat and car to return to Manaus
4. Arrive back at hotel in late afternoon
5. Rest
6. Have dinner in hotel

Belém

Belém is one of Brazil's busiest ports. It’s about 60 miles upriver from the Atlantic ocean! The river is the Pará, part of the greater Amazon river system, separated from the larger part of the Amazon delta by Ilha de Marajó. Belém is built on a number of small islands intersected by channels and other rivers.
Belém was founded in 1616. It was first a European colony and didn't become part of the Brazilian nation until 1775. As the gateway to the Amazon, the port and city grew tremendously in size and importance during the nineteenth century, and is now a large city with millions of inhabitants.

Fortaleza Beach

Fortaleza Beaches are Brazilian’s number 1 holiday destination. It is a beautiful beach with fine white sand and the turquoise waters stretch for 640 km. Fortaleza Beach gets 350 days of sunshine annually and a daytime temperature ranges between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, which keeps the water temperature at a comfortable 28 degrees Celsius. The Trade Winds supply a constant offshore sea breeze which makes it perfect for sunbathing or any beach activities. When family and friends visit, they are taken up the coast by Land Rover. It is known to be an experience of a lifetime!
